The Bowen technique is a dynamic therapy that targets the muscle and connective tissue in the body, wherein the practitioner uses small, gentle and measured moves on the client’s body at specific locations (on muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, etc.), triggering the body to do the rest to actually heal itself profoundly. These movements do not require any forceful manipulation. They essentially intervene with the brain’s signals, telling the body to let go of any tension, stress or emotional baggage. It also restores the posture back to its original and correct alignment. This technique works and can be used for individuals of all ages and in all states of health. This technique was created by the late Tom Bowen, of Geelong, Australia.
The Bowen sessions last from 15 to 45 minutes with pauses in between moves for the client’s body to begin responding. The moves can be done through light clothing. Apart from addressing the area involved, Bowen Therapy focuses on balancing the whole body.
There are a wide variety of issues, both acute and chronic, that Bowen Therapy can be used for. Some of the issues that Bowen Therapy can help with include an improvement in mobility, increased energy and circulation, lymphatic drainage and detoxification, and reduced stress and pain.
